Dallas wants Michael Ryder
June 27th, 2008 by BradLoui Eriksson has signed, 2 years 3.2 million dollars. He’s 22 (I thought he was a little older than that) apparently. I like that signing. Maybe a little much, but he’s getting better all the time, and late last season became a much more dependable player than Miettinen, and even Hagman at times.
What about Hagman? Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning news assured us this morning that the Stars tried talking to Hagmans agent, but they’ve basically decided to just see how it goes on the market, meaning the two sides were just too far apart. I think someone will give him 3 million…the Stars would love to pay him 1.8 or something like that. We move on…
So now the Stars are loaded with left wingers, with left shots. They need an affordable right shot, right wing, and that’s where Michael Ryder of Canadiens fame comes in. He’s the best fit, and had a downer season last year driving his price down. Canadian papers say he won’t sign with Montreal, and that the Bruins and Penguins are interested. I guess no one knows that the Stars are interested.
If a bidding war insues, the Stars won’t participate for long. Maybe Mc Ribs can give Mr Ryder a glowing review of Dallas, as one former Canadien to another, and he can be persuaded.
Our luck probably ran out with getting Brunnstrom, so we’ll see. I wouldn’t keep my fingers crossed. Expect for the Stars to pursue affordable 34+ year old veterans, or a healthy dose of B.J. Crombeen at RW next year.

The Stars have always managed to stay quiet, make quiet signings, and just somehow explode onto the hockey radar come playoff time.
Mike Ryder would fit in with the Stars, although I believe the Canucks are also interested in his services. Ribeiro panned out real well for the Stars, and I think Mike Ryder will too.

I think the B’s and the Pens are also interested in him.
After the madness of today, the Stars will likely stay away, and pick through the veterans and young players in the weeks to come.
Some silly money was handed out today, and I don’t think the Stars want to be a part of that. Nor can they afford to. They want to save some wiggle room for the trade deadline.
